- 1991 the CBA would change the secondary roster from 40 to 38 players.
- 1995 would see the league grow from 24 to 26 teams as the Mexico Black Bandits and the Montreal Paragons became the first two non-US cities to be awarded ABL franchises. 4 years later the Philadelphia Patriots and the San Diego Missions would join the Patriot League to make it 28 teams.
- Over the last couple of years the secondary roster has returned to 40 and the player's association has managed to bargain down the years required for free agency to 5.
A look at the first 20 years of ABL action. LA wins the 1st title and the Patriot League doesn't win again until 1998. Denver dominates that first decade followed by Dallas into the second decade. Dallas leads with 6 series appearances and the Sox, both Providence and Memphis have appeared 5 times each. Last year was the first year since 1991 that both clubs were making their 1st WS appearances.
