Edmonds Racks up 4 HR Against Hoosiers:
Fans at Bart Kaufman Field won't soon forget the raw display of power put on by Illinois Fighting Illini center fielder Jim Edmonds today. Edmonds smashed 4 home runs in Illinois's 8-5 victory over the Indiana Hoosiers.
"To be honest with you, I have never even thought about hitting this many home runs in a game," Edmonds said to reporters after the game. "Only legends hit this many home runs in a game and I ain't no legend."
In his history-making performance, Edmonds victimized Indiana hurlers for 4 hits in 5 at-bats with 4 runs scored and 6 RBIs.
"What he did was unbelievable," said Indiana manager Mike Gradilla. "My guys gave it their best, but he hit some fine pitches. He was like -- he was in automatic home run mode today. He just had that great swing. It didn't matter what we threw him. It was gone."
Jim Edmonds struck out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Rick Ankiel in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Rick Ankiel in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Marcus Baerwolf in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off Tyler Glasnow in the 9th.
In 16 games this season Edmonds has batted at a .386 pace with 27 hits and 12 home runs.
