Wildcard Goes the Distance, TCU Prevails:

The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were on full display tonight at Lupton Stadium as the Wildcard stretched to the final game.

It was the TCU Horned Frogs feeling the thrill of victory, with a 2-1 win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders, who were feeling the devastation of coming up short in their quest to make the Regionals.

"There's no way around it -- this sucks," said Texas Tech manager Miguel Bonilla. "Congratulations to TCU, but I won't sugarcoat it, no one is happy about anything that transpired here tonight."

Instrumental in the 2-1 series win was center fielder Fred Schulte, who was named MVP. He hit .778 with a .727 on-base percentage. He had 0 home runs, drove in 1 RBI and scored 0 runs.

"We've got the most important stat of all and that's this final win -- that's the one that matters," he said.

The TCU Horned Frogs will play against the Florida Gators in the next round. Florida won their series against the Oklahoma State Cowboys 2 games to 0. The Regionals schedule will be announced after the Wildcard finishes.
