In the bottom of the first, Jeter put the Yankees on the board with a run-scoring single. Jeter went on to score from third when Soriano grounded to third. Tino Martinez added a two-out RBI single.

In the top of the second, Bell put the Mariners on the board with a two-out RBI double.

In the bottom of the second, Jeter got a two-out RBI single.

In the bottom of the third, the Yankees loaded the bases with nobody out. Justice popped into the infield fly rule for the first out. Spencer then brought a run in with a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the eighth, Ryan Franklin took the mound for the Mariners. Justice greeted him with a 432 foot lead off homer. Spencer scored from third when Knoblauch grounded into the 6-4 fielder's choice.

In the top of the ninth, Bell added a meaningless RBI single.

The Yankees got 13 hits in the win.
