Only if they have zero days accrued.
if they have 15 days accrued, you have to wait ~29 days, assuming they don't go on the IL.
it doesn't matter if it takes 3 or 10 years to reach 172 games or 344games etc, that's when you get the "year of service time" accrued.
so, you can never accrue more than 1 svc year in any calendar year, for good reason. (asuming you don't go past december or start before january, i guess)
