In the top of the second, Tinker put the Cubs on the board with an RBI single. Tinker went on to score from third when Evers grounded to second. Chance followed with a two-out RBI single that extended his hitting streak to 13 games. Steinfeldt brought Chance home with a double. The damage finally ended when Ganley threw Steinfeldt out at home as he tried to score from second on a Kling single. Even with that, the Cubs had struck with a four-run inning.
In the bottom of the second, Ritchey put the Pirates on the board with an RBI double.

In the top of the sixth, Slagle increased the Cubs lead with an RBI double. Evers brought Slagle home with a single.

In the bottom of the eighth, Otis Clymer scored from third when Leach grounded to short.
