Scores:
Yankees 9, Reds 8 (16 innings). This was some game... The Reds took a 7-2 lead into the ninth inning before a three-run home run by D.J. LeMahieu closed the gap to 7-6. Closer Raisel Iglesias loaded the bases again on two walks and a single, then allowed a game-tying single to Luke Voit, but Michael Lorenzen nailed Giancarlo Stanton at home trying to score the winning run. Mark Payton (who had five hits on the day) homered in the top of the tenth to give the Reds an 8-7 lead. But the Yankees came storming back to tie in the bottom of the inning with another clutch hit from LeMahieu (who leads the league with a .427 average) before leaving the bases loaded. The clubs then traded zeroes for the next five innings before Trevor Bauer, pressed into service as a reliever, walked in the winning run.
Orioles 4, Royals 3. The Orioles took a 4-1 lead into the ninth, but the bullpen did its best to fritter those runs away. Tanner Scott loaded the bases with two hits and a walk, and Richard Bleier came on and walked two more to cut the lead to one before finally ending the game on a forceout. Keyvius Sampson got the win for Baltimore.
Twins 6, Tigers 3. Josh Donaldson's three-run home run made the difference for the Twins. Randy Dobnak had to leave with an injury after just two batters, but the five Minnesota relievers were effective in the win.
White Sox 4, Rangers 3. The Rangers took the lead into the ninth inning, but Yoan Moncada tied the score with a one-out single. Jose Abreu then drove in the game-winner with a sac fly. The Rangers wasted a solid effort by Corey Kluber, who pitched six innings, and Elvis Andrus had three hits for them.
Red Sox 8, Indians 3. Collin McHugh pitched 8 1/3 innings to get the win for Boston. Andrew Benintendi had three hits and drove in four for the Red Sox, and Jose Peraza also had three hits.
Mariners 2, Athletics 1. Daniel Vogelbach provided the margin of victory for Seattle with a two-run first-inning double. Marco Gonzales went eight innings for the Mariners.
Rays 4, Athletics 1. Yonny Chirinos pitched 7 1/3 innings of one-run ball for the Rays. Brandon Lowe hit a two-run home run for Tampa Bay.
Astros 7, Angels 6 (13 innings). This game saw another rousing comeback, as the Astros worked their way back from a 6-1 deficit to tie the score in the ninth on a home run by pinch-hitter Abraham Toro. Four innings later, George Springer hit a walk-off home run to end it. Andrelton Simmons had four hits and Mike Trout had three, including his league-leading tenth home runs, for the defeated Angels.
Cubs 7, Nationals 2. Two-run home runs by Javier Baez and Anthony Rizzo helped Chicago to the win. Jharel Cotton pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings, while Joe Ross was knocked out in the second inning having allowed six runs.
Marlins 10, Phillies 6. Matt Joyce hit two home runs fort the Marlins, driving in four, and Garrett Cooper had four hits. Miami came back from a two-run deficit with a five-run eighth inning. Seranthony Dominguez took the loss, allowed five runs in 2/3 of an inning pitched.
Padres 9, Diamondbacks 0. Injuries to Garrett Richards and Luis Patino didn't hold back the Padres, who saw eight pitchers combine for the shutout, striking out fifteen in the process. Eric Hosmer homered and drove in four for San Diego.
Mets 5, Brewers 4. Michael Conforto's two-run double in the eighth inning led the Mets to the win. Pete Alonso had a three-run home run earlier in the game. Edwin Diaz locked things down for his fifth save.
Braves 6, Giants 3. The Braves managed to hit six solo home runs to beat the Giants in this one. Drew Smyly gave up five of them, and was bested by Mike Foltynewicz, who pitched six innings to get the win.
Rockies 7, Cardinals 4. Brendan Rodgers's three-run home run helped Colorado to a win. Matt Wieters homered and drove in four for the losing Cardinals. Jeff Hoffman got the win by allowing two runs over 6 2/3 innings.
Dodgers 3, Pirates 1. Ross Stripling allowed one run over 5 1/3 innings to get the victory. Will Smith and Joc Pederson homered for the Dodgers. Kenley Jansen allowed three ninth-inning singles, but didn't allow anyone to score.
