Virginia Tech Star Seward Cops Cy Young Award: The Virginia Tech Hokies have a rising superstar or maybe even a budding Hall-of-Famer in the making.
It's Ed Seward, this year's National League Cy Young Award selection. This blossoming hurler wowed fans, peers and sportswriters with a fabulous performance.
Seward compiled a 26-5 record in 32 starts, tallied 406 strikeouts in 243.2 innings and recorded a 1.74 ERA. Other clubs managed only a .156 batting average against him.
He received 145 first place votes out of a possible 146. Madison Bumgarner of the Louisville Cardinals finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while Doc Newton of the Minnesota Golden Gophers finished third.
