Long Beach State Dirtbags Guaranteed Top Spot in American League Big West:
It wasn't easy, but the Long Beach State Dirtbags are champions of the American League Big West.
The club faced challenges to the crown throughout the season, but in the end have edged their division rivals to grab the playoff spot.
"Relief. Happiness. Excitement," was how right fielder Tim Hand responded when asked what he's feeling after the clinch. "We're all looking forward to getting the playoffs started."
The team has a 103-58 record, which has wrapped up their 2nd division title.
Team manager Troy Simmons said it would be "extremely satisfying" to be the man at the helm when the team captures its 1st College World Series.
