In his first season, Sherry Magee not only won the hearts and cheers of the local Pepperdine fans, he also nabbed the American League Rookie of the Year Award.
This gifted right fielder compiled a .308 batting average while collecting 58 home runs and 134 RBIs with a .353 on-base percentage and scoring 115 runs.
He received 105 first place votes out of a possible 125. Darby O'Brien of the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos finished second in voting, while Frank Knauss of the UC Irvine Anteaters finished third with 20 first place votes.
