In the bottom of the first, Combs put the Yankees on the board with a 387 foot two-run homer.

In the bottom of the second, French threw Gazella out at home as he tried to score from second on a Pennock single.

In the bottom of the third, Gehrig hit a two-out solo shot 420 feet.

In the top of the fourth, Foxx put the Athletics on the board with an RBI single. Hale followed with his own RBI single to make it a one-run game. Dykes then put the Athletics in the lead with a two-run double to extend his hitting streak to 11 games. Boley followed with his own RBI double to make it a 5-run inning.

In the top of the sixth, Boley increased the Athletics lead with a two-out RBI double. Grove followed with his own RBI double and that was all she wrote for Pennock. With a runner on second and two out, Walter Beall took the mound for the Yankees and got the final out of the inning.

After six: Philadelphia 7 New York 3.

In the top of the eighth, Bob Shawkey took the mound for the Yankees. Dykes added another RBI single.

In the bottom of the ninth, Gazella picked up a meaningless RBI with a sacrifice fly.

The Athletics pounded out 13 hits to get the win. Lefty Grove recorded 10 strikeouts.

Final score: Philadelphia 8 New York 4.
