Today is the rubber game in the series in New York between the Yankees and the Anaheim Angels. The Yankees have allowed 23 hits in the first two games of this series combined.

In the bottom of the first, the Yankees loaded the bases with one out. O'Neill flew to right for the second out without bringing home a run. Curtis then lined to third to end the inning without scoring.

In the top of the second, the Angels loaded the bases with nobody out. Disarcina grounded into the 1-2 fielder's choice for the first out. But then Anderson scored on a wild pitch. The Angels would reload the bases with two out. But Velarde flew to center and all the Angels would get in that inning was a single run.

In the top of the third, Anderson brought a run in with a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the third, the Yankees again loaded the bases with one out just as rain began to fall. Curtis put the Yankees on the board with a sacrifice fly.

After three: Anaheim 2 New York 1.

In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases empty and one out, the rain stopped. Martinez would put the Yankees in the lead with a 340 foot two-run homer.

In the bottom of the sixth, Pep Harris took the mound for the Angels. Knoblauch got a run-scoring double. Jeter followed with a 329 foot two-run homer. With bases empty and nobody out, Doug Linton took the mound for the Angels.

After six: New York 6 Anaheim 2.

In the top of the seventh, Hernandez hit Hollins in the head with a pitch to load the bases with one out. Hollins had to leave the game with a head injury. He was replaced by Troy Glaus. Salmon then tied the game with a grand slam. Darren Holmes immediately took the mound for the Yankees.

In the bottom of the seventh, Bernie Williams put the Yankees back in the lead with a two-out two-run double. With Williams at second and two out, Mike James took the mound for the Angels and got Martinez to ground out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, O'Neill hit a lead off double but left the game with a leg injury. He was replaced by Darryl Strawberry. Strawberry went on to score on a wild pitch with two out. Raines added a run-scoring double. With a runner on second and two out, Shigetoshi Hasegawa took the mound for the Angels. Knoblauch greeted him with an RBI single.

In the top of the ninth, the Angels loaded the bases with nobody out. Mariano Rivera took the mound for the Yankees. Rivera struck out Fielder and there was one down. Anderson popped into the infield fly rule for the second out. Walbeck, with his first hit of the season, got an RBI single. Pinch hitter Phil Nevin, swinging at a 3-0 pitch, popped up to first to end the game.

The two teams combined for 25 hits in the contest.

Final score: New York 11 Anaheim 7.
