The Calgary Flames lost the game and the series tonight by a score of 4-1. Despite outplaying the opposition throughout the series, the Calgary Flames are once again left to contemplate what could have been, from the front seat of their respective golf carts.

Marc Savard opened the scoring for the Flames early in the second at 2:51 from Zhitnik. Dallas quickly responded with two goals of their own: Sushinsky from Gainey and Letang at 6:50, and Zubov from Horcoff and Langenbrunner at 11:24.

Dallas kept up the pressure in the 3rd with another goal from Sushinsky from Sydor and Gainey at 11:11 of the 3rd. Morrow cemented the Flames' fate with an empty netter from Letang and Lukowich at 19:28.

Like many games this series, Calgary looked dominate at times but struggled to score. Giguere, for his part, faced limited action but appeared out of sync through much of the series, posting a dismal .896 SV% and 2.84 GAA. By contrast, Star's goalie Ed Belfour (pictured) stole the series with a excellent .931 SV%.

This is the second season in a row that the Flames have failed to advance past the first round. Calgary has yet to advance past the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs since their Championship run in the spring of 1989.

With both the Head Coach and General Manager looking for contract renewals, there is now some question has to who will take the reigns of this hockey club going further.
