The Mariners will try to complete the three-game sweep of the Athletics in Oakland tonight. After starting the season 0-2, the Mariners have won six straight.

The Los Angeles Dodgers signed free agent 1B Mo Vaughn to a 1-year contract worth a total of $2 090,000.

In the top of the third, Bell scored from third when Wilson grounded to short. Cameron then picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the third, the Athletics loaded the bases with one out. Piatt then scored on a wild pitch. Tejada gave the Athletics the lead with a two-out two-run single. All three runs in the inning were unearned.

In the top of the fourth, Boone put the Mariners back in the lead with a 349 foot two-run home run. Wilson added a 376 foot three-run shot with two out. With the bases empty and two out, Jim Mecir took the mound for the Athletics. Suzuki made it a six-run inning with an RBI double.

In the top of the fifth, with the bases empty and two out, Chad Bradford took the mound for the Athletics.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Athletics loaded the bases with nobody out. Chavez then hit a two-run double. Menechino added an RBI single.

In the bottom of the seventh, Norm Charlton took the mound for the Mariners.

In the top of the eighth, Luis Vizcaino took the mound for the Athletics.

In the top of the ninth, following a lead off walk, Mark Guthrie took the mound for the Athletics. Wilson came up with a big RBI double.

In the bottom of the ninth, Arthur Rhodes took the mound for the Mariners and set the Athletics down in order to give the Mariners the series sweep.
