In the bottom of the third, Jeremy Giambi put the Athletics on the board with a 357 foot two-run homer.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Athletics loaded the bases with one out. Hernandez brought a run in with a single. Jeremy Giambi popped into the infield fly rule for the second out. Saenz then grounded to first to end the inning.
In the top of the fifth, Olerud led off with a 418 foot jack. Wilson added an RBI single and, on the play, McLemore scored from first on a throwing error by Damon and the score was tied.
In the bottom of the fifth, Jason Giambi put the Athletics back in the lead with a 340 foot three-run home run. With bases empty and nobody out, Joel Pineiro took the mound for the Mariners. The Athletics loaded the bases with two out before Saenz popped up to first to end the inning.
In the top of the sixth, Bell tied the game with a 387 foot three-run homer with two out.

In the top of the seventh, Jeff Tam took the mound for the Athletics. With bases empty and two out, Mark Guthrie took the mound for the Athletics.
In the bottom of the seventh, with a runner on first and two out, Norm Charlton took the mound for the Mariners. The Athletics went on to load the bases with two out. But Damon grounded out to second to end the inning with the score still tied.
In the top of the eighth, Chad Bradford took the mound for the Athletics. Guillen put the Mariners in the lead with a two-out RBI single.
In the bottom of the eighth, with a runner on first and one out, Kazuhiro Sasaki took the mound for the Mariners.
In the top of the ninth, Jason Isringhausen took the mound for the Athletics. Suzuki added an insurance run with a two-out RBI single. Martinez brought Suzuki home with a double. With a runner on second and two out, Luis Vizcaino took the mound for the Athletics and finally got the third out.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Athletics loaded the bases with two out. Sasaki walked Long to bring home a run. But Jason Giambi flew to right to end the game.
The two teams combined for 24 hits in the game.
