1. I read something on either the ‘19 or ‘20 OOTP manual that if you send a player on a rehab stint, he is much less likely to get re-injured right away. There is some sort of “Rust” factor that goes on under the hood. And rehab assignments can mitigate that somewhat. I’ll try to attach what I read once I have a chance to try and find it.
I believe this especially applies to starting pitchers and players that have missed a month or more. And if it’s a really long absence, you may wanna leave them down there for 15-20 days.
2. This one is definitely a judgement call. But I’d say it wouldn’t hurt to give a player a week or two in the Minors to shake the “rust’ off. I especially am careful with starting pitchers.
And for the most part, I’ve had a lot of luck not seeing them get reinjured right after coming back. Can’t honestly remember the last time it happened. Maybe I’ve been lucky but maybe the rehab assignment stuff is somewhat effective.
