In the top of the third, Chance put the Cubs on the board with a two-out RBI single.

Wicker had a no-hitter through three.

After three: Chicago 1 St St Louis 0.

In the top of the fifth, the Cubs loaded the bases with two out. But Chance popped up to third to retire the side.

In the top of the sixth, Slagle brought a run in with a sacrifice fly.

Wicker had a no-hitter through six.

After six: Chicago 2 St Louis 0.

In the bottom of the seventh, despite still not having a hit, the Cardinals got on the board when Smoot scored from third on a Beckley grounder to second. Pinch hitter Al Burch then broke up the no-hitter and tied the game with a two-out RBI single.

In the top of the ninth, Evers put the Cubs back in the lead with a two-out RBI single.

In the bottom of the ninth, with the tying run at first and two out, Beckley flew to left to end the game.

The Cubs out-hit the Cardinals 11-1 in the win.

Final score: Chicago 3 St Louis 2.
