In the bottom of the first, the Yankees loaded the bases with one out. Collins drew a walk on a full count pitch to bring home the game's first run. Speaker had a Koenig fly ball drop out of his glove for the Senators second error of the inning and that allowed Ruth to score from third. Dugan drove in a run with a single but Speaker threw Collins out at home as he tried to score from second. A walk reloaded the bases with two out. Pipgras then flew to left for the final out of the inning.

In the bottom of the second, a Ruth two-run homer traveled 431 feet. The Yankees went on to load the bases with one out. Dugan brought a run in with a sacrifice fly. Johnson hit Cohen with a pitch to reload the bases with two out. Pipgras flew to right to end the inning. It was the second inning in a row the Yankees batted around the order.

Pipgras had a no-hitter through three.

After three: New York 6 Washington 0.

In the top of the fourth, Speaker singled with one out for the Senators first hit of the game. Goslin would score from third when Ruel grounded to second.

In the bottom of the fourth, Koenig increased the Yankees lead with a two-run double. With a runner on second and nobody out, Bobby Burke took the mound for the Senators. Koenig went on to score from third when Cohen grounded into the 6-4-3.

In the top of the fifth, Bluege scored from second when Koenig committed a throwing error after fielding a Harris grounder.

In the top of the sixth, Rice picked up an RBI single.

After six: New York 9 Washington 3.

In the top of the seventh, the Senators loaded the bases with one out. Speaker flew to right for the second out without bringing a run home. Ruel then popped up to first to retire the side.

In the bottom of the eighth, Lou Koupal took the mound for the Senators.

The two teams combined for 8 errors in the contest.

Final score: New York 9 Washington 3.
