In the bottom of the third, Speaker added to the Senators lead with an RBI double. Goslin scored from third when Rice grounded to second.

In the top of the fourth, the Yankees loaded the bases with two out. But Morehart flew to left to retire the side.

In the top of the fifth, Meusel put the Yankees on the board with a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the sixth, Dugan came through with a two-out RBI single. The Yankees went on to load the bases with two out. But Hoyt grounded to second to retire the side.

After six: Washington 4 New York 2.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Senators picked up an insurance run on a two-out RBI single by Myer. Judge followed with an RBI single of his own. With runners at first corners and two out, Bob Shawkey took the mound for the Yankees and got the final out of the inning.

The Senators tallied 10 hits in the game.
