Today concludes the series in Philadelphia between the Yankees and the Athletics. The Yankees will be trying to complete the four-game sweep.

In the top of the second, Collins put the Yankees on the board with an RBI single. Lazzeri scored from third when Boley made a bad throw after fielding a Haas grounder.

In the bottom of the second, Dykes put the Athletics on the board with an RBI single.

In the top of third, the Yankees put on the squeeze but Gehrig could not make contact and Gazella was tagged out at home.

In the bottom of the third, the Athletics met the same fate when Simmons failed to make contact and Bishop was tagged out at home.

After three: New York 2 Philadelphia 1.

In the bottom of the fourth, Dykes tied the game with an RBI single. Cochrane then scored from third when Koenig muffed a Lamar grounder and the Athletics had taken the lead. Bishop then hit a huge two-out two-run single to put the Athletics firmly in command.

In the top of the fifth, Ruth worked on getting the Yankees back in the game with an RBI single. Lazzeri went on to bring Ruth home with a single to make it a one-run game. The Yankees would load the bases with two out but Haas flew to center to retire the side.

After six: Philadelphia 5 New York 4.

In the top of the seventh, Collins tied the game with a two-out RBI single.

In the top of the eighth, Ruth hammered a two-run homer 387 feet to give the Yankees the lead back. That gave Ruth 358 career home runs, moving him up to 21st all time. Eddie Rommel was brought on to pitch for the Athletics after that.

In the top of the ninth, Paschal gave the Yankees an insurance run with a two-out single.

The Yankees got 14 hits while the two teams combined for 9 errors.

Final score: New York 8 Philadelphia 5.
