Today is the second game in the series in New York between the Yankees and the Red Sox. The Yankees used a pair of four-run innings to win the series opener.

The Yankees signed free agent RP Bonnie Hollingsworth to a 1-year contract worth a total of $2,080.

In the bottom of the first, Gehrig put the Yankees on the board with an RBI single. Koenig made it 3-0 with a two-out two-run double. The next batter, Dugan, brought Koenig home with his own double as the Yankees batted around the order in the inning.

Rain began to fall in the bottom of the third. Dugan brought Lazzeri home with a sacrifice fly.

After three: New York 5 Boston 0.

In the bottom of the fifth, Ruth belted a 386 foot lead off homer. Gehrig made it back-to-back home runs with a 407 foot shot. And that brought Herb Bradley out to pitch for the Red Sox.

In the top of the sixth, the Red Sox finally got the goose egg off the board when Flagstead scored from third on a Shaner ground out to short. The game was then stopped for a 64 minute rain delay.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Yankees loaded the bases with two out. But Lazzeri grounded to short to end the inning.

After six: New York 7 Boston 1.

In the top of the seventh, with a runner on third and two out, Myles Thomas took the mound for the Yankees and got Rigney to ground out to retire the side.

In the bottom of the seventh, Tony Welzer took the mound for the Red Sox.

The rain contributed to the two teams combining for seven errors in the game.

Final score: New York 7 Boston 1.
