In the top of the second, Cobb put the Athletics on the board first with a sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the second, Dugan tied things up with his own sacrifice fly.
In the top of the third, an RBI single by French gave the Athletics the lead back. An error followed and the bases were loaded with one out. However, Combs got the Yankees out of the jam as he caught a fly ball from Simmons and then threw Bishop out at home when the Athletics base runner tagged up from third and tried to score.

In the top of the fourth, the Athletics tried a squeeze bunt by Cochrane but Pipgras threw Cobb out at home to keep it a one-run game.
After six: Philadelphia 2 New York 1.
In the bottom of the eighth, Combs put the Yankees in the lead with a clutch two-out two-run single.
In the top of the ninth, Wilcy Moore took the mound for the Yankees. Cobb tied the game with an RBI single.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Yankees put the winning run on first with two out but Mule Haas grounded to short to send the game into extra innings.
After nine: Philadelphia 3 New York 3.
In the top of the tenth, Dutch Ruether took the mound for the Yankees.
In the bottom of the tenth, the Yankees got a lead off walk but pinch hitter Johnny Grabowski wiped out the base runner when he grounded into the 4-6-3.
In the top of the twelfth, the Athletics again tried a squeeze bunt but this time it was Ruether who threw Joe Boley out at home and the score remained tied.
In the top of the thirteenth, Urban Shocker took the mound for the Yankees.
In the bottom of the thirteenth, with a runner on first and two out, Rube Walberg took the mound for the Athletics and struck out Combs to end the inning.
In the bottom of the fifteenth, Joe Pate took the mound for the Athletics. With runners at first and second and two out, Cedric Durst cracked a base hit to center to score Collins from second and finally bring this thing to an end.
The Athletics recorded 10 hits in the loss. Yankees hitters struck out a total of 11 times.
Final score: New York 4 Philadelphia 3 15 innings.
