Flames qualify RFAs

Flames qualify RFA's
16.06.00 10.30MST

New GM shores up depth, but 3 players reject qualifying offer.

Many pending RFA's signed on the dotted line this past week, as the new Flames boss, and many of his players came to mutual agreements. Three key players were not so happy and rejected their offers leaving them free to pursue other offers.

Defenders Toni Lydman, Robyn Regehr, and right winger Martin St Louis received qualifying offers, but did not sign meaning that Calgary reserves the right to match any offers these three young players receive. If Calgary refuses, then the Flames will receive compensatory draft picks in the 2001 entry Draft as a result.

"I'm obviously not thrilled with these developments. These guys are really important to our team going forward, and I am optimistic that we'll see them all in Flames' colours this September." Dave Fyvie spoke in front of reports this morning.

In other roster news: some notable names were not offered qualifying offers and risk being without a team come July 1st. Former first rounder Andrei Nazarov, pugilist Wade Belak and Red Deer native Paul Manning are some of the names amongst the list of non-returnees.

The deadline for retaining any players whose contracts expire is June 30th.
