Walkers news: August 10 -- Springfield 9, St. Louis 4
Record: 61-48, 1st, 3.5 GA Springfield and Quad City
Springfield chased St. Louis starting pitcher Jimmy Lambert by scoring seven runs in the first three innings and the Prairie Fighters went on for a 9-4 win at Olympic Stadium (Montreal).
Springfield struck quickly with a four-run bottom of the first inning.
Andres Gimenez and Eric Hosmer opened the stanza with back-to-back double off River Walkers starter Jimmy Lambert.
Austin Hendrick scored Hosmer with a three-straight hit,
Dylan Crews then made it 4-0 with a two-run homer.
Crews drove in another run in the second with a single off Lambert.
Anthony Seigler pretty much ended Lambert's outing with a two-run homer in the third.
St. Louis would inch back to within 7-4 after Jared Thomas led off the top of the seventh with a homer off reliever Raul Ahumada.
But the Fighters got back-to-back homer from Crews, his second of the game, and Daniel Becerra to put their lead back to 9-4.
Springfield starter Jard Kelley lasted four innings, allowing three runs on six his.
Luis M. Castillo (6-8) pitched a scoreless fifth and earned the win.
Three more relievers -- Kenley Jansen (1.0 IP), Ahumada (1.0) and Dinelson Lamet (2.0) -- combined to close out the win for the Fighters.
