2020 Week 3. (8-7)
The new week started with a trip back home to face a division rival, the Mets. The first game featured two great pitchers in Perez and DeGrom and our team managed to prevail and take the first W of the series. Perez had another impressive outing as he went six innings allowing only one run. in 4 hits. Before the game, I´ve made some changes in the bullpen roles as Nick Anderson was named the new closer and Riley Ferrell was moved to a setup role. Ferrel pitched a clean eighth and Anderson had his first save of the season by pitching a 3 up, 3 down ninth. De Grom, could only play one inning as he had to be taken out of the game due to an injury. Mike Ford had his first homer of the year.
With had back to back wins for the second time of the year. It was a weird walk-off win as Rio Ruiz reached on an error by Yoenis Cespedes and the winning run, Victor Victor Mesa, scored. Caleb Smith struggled in the first innings and allowed 5 earned runs in 4.2 IP. Max Povse and Kyle Keller finished the game without allowing a single run. In his rookie season, Keller has been amazing, I hope he can keep up this level for the rest of the year.
The last game of the series was for the Mets. Zac Gallen was okay and his game slashline was 5IP, 3H, 2ER. Eveld gave up one more run in relief and the game finished 4-2. We had tied in the third but an error in the fourth by Yolmer Sanchez cost us another run. Tim Anderson had his second homer of the year. Michael Comforto also had a homer and he has been red hot since the season started, this homer was his sixth of the year.
Some league news: Dakota Hudson, of the San Francisco Giant, has suffered a torn labrum and will undergo Tommy John surgery. He is done for the year.
The new home series against the Pirates brought us the second shutout win of the season. Dallas Keuchel had a complete game, allowing just 5 hits, no base on balls and striking out seven. In his three starts, he has earned 2 wins and has an ERA of 1.71. He has been performing as expected. More good news on the offensive side as Will Smith had his first homer and multi-hit game of the year. Trey Mancini had a two-run homer in the fifth against Trevor Williams.
Loaisgia's third start of the year was as bad as the two before them and he was optioned to AAA after the game. Sandy Alcantara was called up and will take a place in the rotation, as I rather not move Yamamoto to a new role, he has been doing a good job as a long reliever. The five runs gave up by the starter in the first inning were practically definitive as we lost by 7 to 4. Isan Diaz had his first homer of the year and it was a grand slam in the first inning of Clay Holmes. Povse had a good game in relief and Gerson Bautista has been really good all season long.
The sunday game against the Pirates was a win for us and we took the series. The player of the game was right fielder, Jorge Soler, who had a two-homer game (Both solo shot and both against Dario Agrazal). Martin Perez had a good second start as he had a 5.2 IP and allowed 1 run. The bullpen had a good outing and Nick Anderson earned his second save of the year. James McCann had his first homer of the year. He will be having more chances as a starter the next few weeks.
