NIRL SECOND JAM-PACKED AT THE TOP
Stockdale, Union Heights and Wafford are all bunched up at the top of the North Island Recreational League Second Division... the Wafford Eagles swept by Stockdale 4-3 and caused the deadlock... also Union Heights eased by the Theodore Bobcats 4-3 in another close one and moved up in the race... the Bobcats are just one game behind the trio, resting in the fourth spot... the lackluster Kinston Firebirds and West Chester Comets tangled with the Firebirds coming out on top 5-2... Kinston is three games back of the league leaders, while the Comets are five games off the pace.
The batting leader in the NIRL Second Division is Theodore's third baseman Sidney Kimball... he is tops with a .500 batting average, going 20 for 40 in 13 games... in the second spot is Union Heights hurler Eddie Beal, a two-way star... he is batting .400 along with Wafford center fielder Manny Velasco... Andy Kessler of Stockdale and Carlo Vizina of Theodore top the home-run list with three each... Vizina is no longer a threat for the home-run title... he suffered a knee injury early in the year and is out the rest of the season... 9 other players are tied for the third spot with 2 roundtrippers apiece... the RBI leaders are Ivan Orsak of Theodore with 11 and Dave Strickland of Wafford with 10... Velasco is tops in hits with 24, while Kimball is second with 20... the stolen base leader is Caleb Carson of Theodore with 11.
