Week 10
The Pirates are currently 24-32 and still sit in fourth place in the central division, nine games behind the leading Cubs. This week the Bucs start their interleague play. They play three games at home against the Red Sox, who are 34-22, and then travel to New York to play the Mets who are currently 26-30.

Game 57: Pirates 9 Red Sox 3
Many people were wondering just when the real Kris Benson would appear, and it seems that he made an appearance in this game. He gave up just three runs against the vaunted Red Sox offense in eight innings of work for his third win of the year. The Pirates offense really knocked around Derek Lowe, scoring seven runs in just 4 2/3 innings off of him. Pirates hitters combined for a total of eight doubles in the game.

Game 58: Pirates 7 Red Sox 4
Despite being outhit 9-7 the Pirates and Perez have continued their winning ways. Perez went 7 1/3 innings, giving up four runs for his seventh win of the season. Fossum gave up five runs, four of which were earned, in six innings of work for the loss. The Pirates scored two insurance runs in the seventh off of Chad Fox to close this game out. Mann pitched a scoreless ninth for his seventh save of the season.

Game 59: Pirates 1 Red Sox 4
Fogg had a decent game, but it wasn't enough as he picked up his 8th loss, giving up four runs in seven innings. The Pirates bats just didn't show up for this game, as Elmore pitched a complete game scattering 7 hits and walking three, giving up just one run to earn the win.

Series Recap: The Pirates didn't let themselves get pushed around by the Red Sox. Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come.

Game 60: Pirates 2 Mets 10
Dave Williams really struggled in this game, giving up six runs in 4 1/3 innings of work for the loss. The bullpen didn't do much to help, as Vogelsong and Sauerbeck each gave up two more runs. Leiter, on the other hand, pitched quite well, giving up just two runs in six innings. The Mets bullpen held up, giving up no runs in three innings of relief.

Game 61: Pirates 7 Mets 2
This game was veteran versus young upstart, and the veteran came out on top of this one. Maddux gave up just one run in 6 2/3 innings to pick up his second straight win in a Pirate uni. Nunez, did fairly well, giving up just two runs in 4 2/3 innings, but he picked up the loss. The score was close heading into the eighth, as the Pirates lead just 3-2, but the Bucs broke things open, scoring three unearned runs in the eighth and then one more unearned run in the ninth off of Yates.

Game 62: Pirates 7 Mets 4
Benson had another pretty good game, and managed to not give up a single run until the sixth inning, where he gave up three runs. He finished with his 4th win of the year, pitching six innings and giving up three runs. Ross Peeples made his first career major league start for the Mets, and got knocked around pretty bad. He gave up five runs in just two innings to record the loss. Mann picked up the last out in the ninth, after Sauerbeck allowed a run without getting a single out, for his eighth save of the season.

Series Recap: The Pirates and Mets each scored 16 runs, but the Bucs came out on top 2 games to 1. Exactly what the Pirates need to try and work their way back into the mix of things, one game at a time.

Around the league, on Tuesday, Arizona's left fielder, 36 year old Luis Gonzalez blistered three homers against the Indians. His first was a grandslam off Dave Elder in the second inning, the second was a solo homerun off of Mike Williams in the fifth, and his last was a two run homer off of Mike Williams in the seventh. He powered his team to a 12-4 win over the Indians.
