4/7 and 4/9 vs Twins

4/7/70 Twins 10 White Sox 7
Tommy John only allowed 3 earned runs in 7 innings, but the bullpen let it get away falling behind 10-2 going into the bottom of the ninth. Then the offense almost bailed them out and had the tying run at the plate at the end. Included in the ninth inning rally was a pinch-hit grand slam by Tommy McCraw.

In between games, we were granted 2B Bart Shirley off waivers from the Dodgers. Jerry Hairston will be sent to AAA Tuscon to make room for Shirley. Hairston had a pinch-hit double in his first ever professional at bat, and I would like to see him make his way back to the majors before 1970 is over. I'll be keeping an eye on him.

4/7/70 Twins 7 White Sox 2

For the second game in a row, I called on a pinch-hitter for my pitcher while trailing 3-2 in the seventh. For the second game in a row, the bullpen imploded. I have been saving Wood for games where we are ahead or tied, but I may have to pitch the knuckleballer any time it is close regardless of who is winning.
