After 18 mostly miserable seasons (one playoff appearance, only two winning records), the Minnesota Ice have headed south to Memphis to become the Hawkeyes for the 1974 season and beyond. Part-owners include Alan Alda and Elvis Presley. Quite a MASH-up, eh?
From the introductory press conference, Mr. Presley's remarks:
"Now, ah know ah said a while back that a whole lotta nothin' happens in baseball. But that ain't gonna be the case here. These guys may have been nothin' but hound dogs up north, but the fans are gonna show 'em some burnin' love here in Memphis. Give 'em a few years, and they'll be kings of the NABL! Thankyewverramuch!"
Elvis then left the building.

What can I say, primary owner Aaron Shroeder is cheap. I suspect Montreal and Milwaukee were also considered for new homes.
