I think we should always live for the moment, look forward to the future but look back on fond memories so thought this would be a nice addition to the thread.
My first player of the past is Johnny Lipon, why Johnny Lipon. Well I'm in the Summer of 49 online league, a fantasy draft league in its first season. I drafted Lipon as my back up SS to Per Wee Reese, well Lipons doing so well I may trade Reese, however I digress.
Lipon played 7 seasons for the Tigers, he didn't have a spectacular career but lived most of our dreams of playing major league baseball. Not a spectacular career but one spectacular day or should that be a spectacular at bat. In 1951 Bob Feller was on his way to his third career no hitter, Lipon may not have stopped the no hitter but he did stop the shut out with the help of the Cleveland fielders. He reached first on an error, stole second base, reached third on an errant pick off throw and scored on a sac fly. Time may forget that day, it may forget Johnny Lipon but I bet Bob Feller never did.
