Walkers news: May 22 -- St. Louis 3, Quad City 2
Record: 21-10, 3rd, 1.5 GB Des Moines and Springfield
Tied 2-2, Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a one-out home run off Quad City starting pitcher Nick Wood in the bottom of the fourth inning to put St. Louis ahead for good in what-would-be a 3-2 win at Busch Stadium.
An error on third baseman JT Schwartz led to Quad City scoring a run off River Walkers starter Alex Faedo in the top of the first inning.
St. Louis tied it in the bottom half of the first.
Bo Bichette drew a lead-off walk from Wood, and then stole second.
A Rhys Hoskins single moved him to third.
Bichette scored on a wild pitch.
A solo homer from Jared Thomas in the second put St. Louis in front 2-1.
But the Thunder evened it in the fourth when Josh Bell took Faedo deep with one out.
That set the stage for Tatis Jr.'s homer in the fourth which would put the Walkers in front for good.
Faedo (6-1) pitched into the sixth inning before exiting with the bases loaded and two outs.
Tim Hill, however, came on and struck out pinch-hitter Kameron Misner to keep his team in front.
That result meant Faedo would allowed two runs on six hits in 5.2 innings. He struck out eight and walked one.
John Curtiss got the first two outs of the seventh before allowing a pair of hits.
Jake Brentz rescued him by getting Bell to ground out and keep it 3-2.
Brentz would pitch around a lead-off walk in the eighth.
Edwin Diaz set Quad City down in order in the ninth for his sixth save.
