Record: 6-4, 1st (Tied/w. Cedar Rapids), 1 GA Des Moines and Kansas City
For the second time in as many games Jimmy Lambert tossed six innings of shutout baseball for the St. Louis River Walkers as they downed Rockford 2-0 at RFK Stadium (1962).
In his first start, Lambert worked shutout Kansas City for six innings in a game the Walkers eventually lost 1-0.
This time, against the Lightning, St. Louis came away with the win.
Lambert (1-0) allowed five hits in his six innings. He struck out three and walked seven.
St. Louis used five relievers to get through the final three innings.
John Curtiss (0.2 IP), Nick Lodolo (0.1) and Danny Grigg (0.1) got the Walkers through seventh inning.
The eighth belonged to Jake Brentz.
Edwin Diaz handled the ninth, earning his third save.
St. Louis got the only run it would need in the top of the second when Andrew Benintendi led off with a homer off Rockford starting pitcher Alex Reyes.
The game's only other run came in the sixth.
Bo Bichette led off with a single off reliever Taylor Widener.
He stole second and reached third on a passed ball by catcher Jake Holland.
Rhys Hoskins scored Bichette with a two-out single.
