Minneapolis was seeded second to the Rochester Royals in the Western Division, while New York was only the third pick in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Game 1: Jim Pollard's 32 points led the Lakers to an 83-79 win in overtime at home... Mikan added 15 points and 16 rebounds... Connie Simmons and Dick McGuire were tops for the Knicks with 15 points each.
Game 2:The Knicks got the best on the Lakers 80-72 in Minneapolis paced by Harry Gallatin's 18 points... Mikan led the Lakers with 18 points and 21 rebounds.
Game 3: On the road in New York, Minneapolis took the series lead 2-1 with an 82-77 victory, sparked by Mikan's 26 points and 17 rebounds... Max Zaslofsky led the Knicks with 17 points.
Game 4: At home, the Knicks tied it up at two games each, winning in overtime 90-89 with Connie Simmons leading the way with 30 points... Jim Pollard scored 32 for the Lakers, while Mikan was limited to just 11 points, going just 4-for-20 from the field, but he did grab 17 rebounds.
Game 5: Returning to Minneapolis, the Lakers took a 3-2 lead in the series with a 102-89 licking, led by Miken and Vern Mikkelsen with 32 points apiece... Nat Clifton was tops for the Knicks with 17.
Game 6: Back at home, New York evened it up again at 3-3 by whipping Minneapolis 76-68... Zaslofsky tallied 23 for the Knicks, while Mikan was the Lakers' best with 28 points and 15 rebounds.
Game 7: The series' finale was for all the marbles in Minneapolis and the Lakers came to play, routing New York 82-65... Mikan scored 22 points and grabbed 19 rebounds to take the NBA crown... Zaslofsky popped in 21 for the Knicks.
