The mountain of variance is the primary problem. That's always going to happen when you keep moving the top end up while entry level remains static. But no company reliant on microtransactions can/will ever stop raising the bar.

Take it slow and enjoy pursuing your own goals, because the developers won't stop chasing the dollars. They can't.

But sooner or later, the customers will notice they're running on treadmill. Ask any game title that fell into the non-stop Expansion trap.
