Walkers news: April 13 -- Kansas City 3, St. Louis 1, Game 2
Record: 4-2, 1st (Tied/w. Cedar Rapids),1 GA Des Moines and Springfield
Johnny Kuhn Jr. tossed six shutout innings and the Kansas City bullpen held on as the Pit Masters downed St. Louis 3-1 in the second game of a doubleheader at Kansas City Municipal Stadium (1969).
Kuhn (1-0) stymied the RIver Walkers allowing just three hits in his six innings. He struck out six and walked one.
Andrew Ryan and Ryan Stanek both worked a scoreless inning apiece to maintain a 3-0 Kansas City lead.
The River Walkers put something together against Masters closer David Berg in the ninth.
Andrew Benintendi reached with a one-out double and moved to third on a Rhys Hoskins single.
Benintendi scored when Carlos Vidal hit into a fielder's choice.
Berg then got Jean Carmona to ground out to end it, earning him his first save.
The Masters grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third against St. Louis starter Alex Faedo.
Faedo opened the inning by walking two of the last three batters.
Jayson Gonzalez then chased home the game's first run with a single.
Another single, this one from Yordan Alvarez, made it 2-0.
Kansas City got its third run in the seventh.
Logan Tanner scored the run after reaching on a one-out single off Faedo.
Dan Jennings took over and his first pitch eluded catcher Jared Thomas, moving Tanner to second.
A walk to Greg Jones loaded the bases.
Another off-the-mark offering, this one ruled a passed ball, brought Tanner across the plate and made it 3-0.
