May 5th, 1975: McNally vs. Kawasaki
As it turns out, the second game of the three game series in Denver between the two top contenders for the MGL crown- the Brooklyn Aces and the Denver Brewers- features a match-up between the reigning MGL Pitcher of the Year, Aaron McNally, and the hottest new pitching import, Sadahige Kawasaki.
When facing McNally you have to assume that you will need to hold the Aces to as few runs as possible as it is highly unlikely McNally will allow even an offense as great as the Brewers to cross the plate too many times.
In their first match-up, of what will likely be many, Kawasaki was unable to do that.
He gave up 7 runs in the first two innings combined and although Sadahige settled down quite a bit after that the damage was done and McNally cruised to his 5th win of the season. The only run McNally would give up before the 9th inning, when he was clearly gassed but insisted his manager leave him on the mound, was a first inning lead-off homer off the bat of the red-hot Josh Schaeffer.
