Elias "Country" Brown
Elias "Country" Brown was a veteran Negro League player who doubled as a comedian by performing stunts for the crowds in a way similar to what would be done by the Indianapolis Clowns in later years. The encyclopedias indicate that he played 3rd base, 2nd base, and outfield. His time in the Negro Leagues ran from 1917 through 1933. He played for the Breakers Hotel, Hilldale, the NY Lincoln Giants, the Bacharach Giants, the Brooklyn Royal Giants, and the Washington Potomacs. Two images of him have been posted previously on this thread. One showed him in street clothes; the other in the uniform of the Bacharach Giants.
The image is from the 1923 Washington Potomacs team photo as displayed on the swanngalleries.com website in 2017. The identification was done by Gary Ashwill via Worthpoint and Swann Galleries.
