Denver Brewers first baseman Bobby Erbakan is building a pretty good case for being a front-runner for the MGL MVP of 1974 and towards that end he is chosen as the MGL Player of the Month for August.
Interestingly the two players most likely to challenge him for the award are teammates: Ryan Rodgers and Joe McPhillips.
As things stand right now, as we enter the final month of the season, it is hard to see anyone but one of the three winning the MVP award. Rodgers is on an almost certain path to win the third batting title of his career and currently leads all players in WAR with 6.6. McPhillips is the best power hitter of the three and is currently 4th in the MGL in HR's, just 2 behind the co-leaders. And like Erbakan he is a five-tool player, but at a far more important defensive position.
There are enough games left in the season for someone to pull away from the pack (or fall back from the pack) or even for a player from another team to emerge as a legitimate contender. But at this point it appears it will be a fascinating 3-man race between teammates.
