Actually, looking at it again... the contrast is good... I think you picked good colors... no change needed.
Sometimes script lettering is too fancy to read easily, especially when the jerseys are small on the game screens.
Try block lettering using the same colors and see what you think... block lettering is less cluttered than script lettering and is easy to read in the game.
