Let me try.
The caddy can get a better visual angle than you from further back. You can of course do this yourself by walking back there. But once you go back to the ball that visual is lost. If the Caddy is there you can adjust. They've been doing this for years and just about every amateur golfer with a good caddy does this and has done this since forever. Caddies do this to get better tips.
