If I were to give any advice to a young up & coming GM, it would be to remove all emotion from your decision-making process. This, of course, is not advice that I would follow, but it seems like the right thing to say...
Los Angeles and Houston announced some roster changes today as the Lakers acquired 24-year-old minor league LHP Toni Cartwright and 24-year-old minor league LHP Matthew Jeon from the Dynamo in exchange for 30-year-old RHP Rudolf Caldwell. Representatives from both teams say they are pleased with the deal.
This year Caldwell has 10 relief appearances with 1 save, 0-3 season record and a 3.38 ERA. He has hurled 13.1 innings, given up 10 hits, struck out 8 and walked 9. Opposing clubs have batted .196 against the Houston reliever. And he sucks at closing out games.
Fare thee well, Rudolf, and don't let the door hit you on your way out...
Side note: Houston also signed Derek Jeter as a free agent... so, their decision making is definitely suspect.
