That is an official logo the Tigers used back then. It isn't the one that OOTP gives you, though. I downloaded these logos back in 2012 and have used them ever since. I think they're more accurate than what OOTP uses. The Tigers used this logo for a long time, too. It was in place from the early '30s until 1960. There's actually a worse one from the late '20s where the Tiger looks scared.

The Red Sox logo is even worse, I think.
