2071 Season:

We're back.

The CLEVELAND INDIANS were World Champions, defeating the San Francisco Giants in 5 games. It was their first World Series win in 123 years, snapping an unprecedented streak.

The RICHMOND FLYING SQUIRRELS were relegated to the Pit of Despair. They finished 53-109, four games behind the Fort Myers Miracle for last place.

136 teams remain in Major League Baseball...

In Memoriam: Richmond Flying Squirrels

AA- San Francisco Giants

AA Teams Remaining: 18

Giants Affiliates Remaining: 3/5

All Time Record: 4172-4549 (.478)

Best Season: 2051, 97-64, 18th place

Best Hitter: Steve Reynolds (2056-2064)

Reynolds was a first round draft pick by Richmond in 2055 out of Northwestern. A third baseman, he was twice named Silver Slugger. His best season came in 2061, when he was worth 9.6 WAR and hit 50 home runs. He signed with the Red Sox in 2065, and he was a World Champion the following year. He currently plays first base for the White Sox, and with 475 home runs, he will likely be a Hall of Famer in a few short years.

Best Pitcher: Billy Sanders (2046-2059)

Sanders was the second pick in the draft in 2042 and pitched for some of the best teams in Richmond history. After twice being named a top 5 prospect, he found his way into the rotation for years. His best season came at age 33 in 2057, when he was worth 6.1 WAR with a 2.83 ERA. Unfortunately, he tore his UCL the following Spring Training and missed the entire season. Sanders was never the same. He posted a 5.08 ERA in the bullpen in 2059. He remained unsigned for a season, and after a brief comeback attempt with Tacoma, he retired in 2061. His number 6 was retired by the Flying Squirrels.

Notes:

Omaha RF Jeremy Arnold led the league with a .381 batting average.

West Michigan RF Tim Waters had a .467 OBP. He walked 91 times to just 76 strikeouts. His 1.092 OPS led the league.

Great Lakes LF Juan Escobar led the league with 9.8 WAR.

Pulaski LF Dan Powell stole 13 bases and was caught 22 times, an atrocious ratio.

Two time reigning MVP Rogelio Troche had just a .314 OBP.

Delmarva SP Mike Gumm won the Cy Young Award with his 1.89 ERA. The former 1112nd overall pick broke out in a big way after posting an 8.62 ERA in four starts a year earlier.

Angels SP Curt Murphy led the league with 324 strikeouts.

Akron SP Chris Winlock went 2-20 with a 6.74 ERA.

Rockies SP Deshawn Togba struck out just 190 batters, his lowest total in 11 years. He still moved to 25th all time in that category.

The Vermont Lake Monsters were the best MiLB team, going 97-64 and finishing in 8th place.

The New York Yankees were the worst MLB team, going 73-88 and finishing in 101st place.
