The Frogs have been playing some uninspired baseball the last couple of days resulting in actually sinking into 2nd place in the division. The biggest problem has been the bullpen/8th inning. A very economical bullpen put up some great numbers last week (2.68 ERA), but the non-Eckersley pieces have been trash this week. Pedro Borbon (1.87 ERA last week) was pitching to a 9+ ERA through June before I pulled the plug on him. Tried the All Star version of Ryan Pressly because I've had some luck with really high stuff/control and meh movement pitchers (ahem, 89 Eckersley), but Pressly was trash, too. This one issue has probably cost the team 5-10 games all by itself. Still on the prowl for a setup man. At 83-57, the Frogs sit 1 game behind the scorchingly hot New York The Amazins.

I don't think I've ever seen a [non-whale] team come out of nowhere quite like this "New York The Amazins" team has. They played .500 ball through June and randomly decided to go 42-15 (two 21-win months in a row) in July and August. This team is also doing the extreme LHB/RHB park factor thing, and that's helping what looks like a pretty weak offense do enough to complement the stronger pitching element of this team.

It'll be interesting to see if my Frogs are resilient to overtake them or not after falling out of 1st place for the first time since mid-April. Either way both teams are all but assured a ticket to the postseason. I'd much rather not have to play a single elimination game if I can help it...
