In the top of the first, Olerud put the Mariners in the lead with a two-run single.

In the top of the third, Martinez delivered a two-out RBI double. Olerud followed with a two-run homer.

In the bottom of the third, Jeter put the Yankees on the board with a sacrifice fly.

Cameron led off the top of the fourth with a home run. Clemens then retired the side on strikes.

Carlos Almanzar took the mound for the Yankees in the top of the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth, Brosius scored from third when Jeter grounded to second.

In the bottom of the sixth, O'Neill hit an RBI single. A single loaded the bases with nobody out. Martinez grounded into the 1-2 fielder's choice for the first out. Brosius then grounded into the inning-ending 1-2-3.

After six: Seattle 6 New York 3.

In the top of the seventh, with a runner on first and one out, Randy Choate took the mound for the Yankees.

In the top of the eighth, with a runner on first and two out, Brian Boehringer took the mound for the Yankees.

In the bottom of the eighth, Arthur Rhodes took the mound for the Mariners.

In the top of the ninth, the Mariners loaded the bases with nobody out. Martinez was hit by a pitch to force in a run. Mike Stanton took the mound for the Yankees. Olerud lined to second for the first out. Boone picked up an RBI with a single but Justice threw Suzuki out athome as he tried to score from second on the play.

In the bottom of the ninth, Williams hit an RBI double with two out. With runners at second and third, Kazuhiro Sasaki took the mound for the Mariners. Posada hit a two-run single. O'Neill tied the game with a two-run homer.

After nine: Seattle 8 New York 8.

Jamie Moyer took the mound for the Mariners in the bottom of the tenth. The Yankees loaded the bases with two out. Williams delivered the walk-off single.

The two teams combined for 33 hits in the contest.

Final score: New York 9 Seattle 8 10 innings.
