In the top of the first, the Tigers got a pair of hits before Hand struck out the side to get out of the inning.

In the bottom of the second, Biittner put the Rangers in the lead with an RBI single.

In the top of the fifth, Horton put the Tigers in the lead with a two-out, two-run homer.

After six: Detroit 2 Texas 1.

In the bottom of the seventh, Wynn scored to tie the game when Harris beat out the 6-4-3.

In the top of the eighth, with a runner at first and one out, Ray Burris took the mound for the Rangers.

In the top of the ninth, Kaline put the Tigers back in the lead with an RBI single. Horton added a two-out, two-run single. The Tigers went on to load the bases. Rodriguez flew out to left to retire the side.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Rangers had runners at second and third but pinch hitter Don Mincher flew out to right to end the game.

The Tigers got 11 hits in the win.

Final score: Detroit 5 Texas 2.
