In the top of the ninth, with a runner on first and one out, Dave LaRoche took the mound for the Twins. The Rangers loaded the bases with one out. Burroughs hit a sacrifice fly to put the Rangers up by two.
In the bottom of the ninth, Fairly hit an RBI single but was thrown out trying to turn it into a double. With runners at the corners and one out, Horacio Pina took the mound for the Rangers. Mitterwald grounded into the game-ending 6-4-3.
The Twins got ten hits in the loss.
