Today is the rubber match in Anaheim between the Mariners and the Angels. The Mariners had their best offensive output of the season last night, scoring more runs in the third inning than they had in seven of their first ten games.

St Louis Cardinals RP Dave Veres has a torn rotator cuff. He is expected to miss the next 8-9 months.

In the top of the sixth, Mike Holtz took the mound for the Angels. McLemore hit a run-scoring double.

In the top of the seventh, with a runner on first and one out, Lou Pote took the mound for the Angels.

In the top of the eighth, without getting a hit, the Mariners loaded the bases with nobody out. Glaus muffed a Suzuki grounder to allow Bell to score from third. Ben Weber took the mound for the Angels. Lampkin scored when Martinez grounded to second. Olerud brought McLemore home with a sacrifice fly. The Mariners scored three runs in the inning without getting a single hit.

In the top of the ninth, with a runner on third and one out, Shigetoshi Hasegawa took the mound for the Angels. Lampkin got an RBI single.
