2021
Things were rough for Farel over the coming years. He only lasted 19 games in Kingsport before the Mets cut him.
Out of baseball, he settled down in the Tennessee city and worked what odd jobs he could- bartender, personal trainer, baseball tutor. He garnered a sort of folk hero reputation, largely due to his humility, kindness and genuine compassion for others. He could be seen a church every Sunday and served as a reliable bartender.
It might have been the end of his sporting career but he was happy, content that he could do this now.
2022
Early in 2022, as Farel enjoyed iced tea on the porch of his neighbour, he received a call from the front office of the Atlanta Braves. It seemed as he was gone but not forgotten in the world of baseball. He was offered yet another minor league contract and a place on the Rome Braves. A week later, he was settling into a motel room 60 miles north of Atlanta. However, the 2022 season was fairly dismal for Farel. He hit just .157 across 62 for the Rome Braves and the Class A+ affiliate, the Florida Fire Frogs. What kept him viable was his defence- 118 putouts, 174 assists and 33 double plays. His defensive abilities meant that he could keep a place within the organisation.
However, he didn’t have long to enjoy Rome or Kissimmee as in early 2023, he was traded to the Cubs and told to report to Davenport and the DSL Cubs 2.
Things just kept on changing on the 25-year-old.
