Don't understand how I can have the best pitching staff in the regular season that just decides to lay eggs in the playoffs. Bauer and Verlander...neither made it out of the 5th inning. (Verlander the 3rd).
Bauer made it into at least the 6th inning in all 33 of his regular season starts and led the league with a 2.37 ERA. In 1 playoff start, he goes just 4.2 innings and gives up a season-high 6 ER.
Verlander led the league in wins, Ks and WHIP. Went at least 5 innings in every game. Gave up 7 runs 1 time. Playoffs? Gives up 7 runs in 2.2 innings. Against a team that won 27 fewer games in the regular season, which we went 12-7 against during the regular season.
I realize there are many factors here, but man...super discouraging to see a great team lay an egg in the playoffs again...unless we can win game 5 at home, with Stephen Strasburg at the helm.
